Porta Coeli

Porta Coeli translates to doorway to heaven. This church is the most famous attraction in this town and it is one of the oldest churches in the Americas and the oldest church under the United States jurisdiction.
Today this old Convent is a museum which houses an interesting religious art museum which include wood statues of the 18 & 19 centuries. Porta Coeli was built by Dominican friars in 1609. The church was built of rubble masonry and stucco surfaced walls and a beautiful wood truss roof. The church faces the two plazas in San Germàn. Porta Coeli in the Plaza Porta Coeli at Ramas and Dr. Veve Streets.
